The oldest of the lot was only 8 years old when Rutherford died. Therefore, no one who is a leader today knew either of the first two leaders of the WTS. These are all Knorr/Franz men. So Russell and Rutherford are distant, almost mythical Joseph Smith type characters for these men. I think that's why the first three presidencies were so different in tone. Each knew his predecessor and didn't agree with a few things that were done. Rutherford had to have known that Russell was a bit of an eccentric and that his dates were shit. Knorr and Franz knew that Rutherford had his own hand in false prophecies and was an arrogant drunk. And the current crop know all about 1975 and the Society's standard line that it was a few overzealous brothers who preached the end. These are men who grew up within the organisation idolising Franz and Knorr, while thinking wonderful things about the others. The organisation is their God and they know no other. They will protect this organisation no matter what. That's the striking part to me about their personalities.

In a pickle - The U.S. and Egypt - What would you do?
by Glander in1. cut off funding to the military, stand back and watch, aka, the ron paul position.
2. back up the military in putting down the muslim brotherhood ( the mb being the incubator for extremist jihadists).
3. back the muslim brotherhood (the us backed the morsi/muslim brotherhood originally).

The first option. I support the social Darwinist position on this. There never should have been such military aid. If you have to bribe the leaders of one nation into accepting peace, then there really isn't any peace that's sustainable. Finally, military aid is the most irresponsible form of assistance anyone can give to a nation in one of the world's tulmultuous regions. This is an Egyptian problem and it must be solved by Egyptians. It is unfortunate that there is violence and killings there, but intervention is only going to make it worse.

They were doing their best Joseph Smith impression when they directly tied a vision someone wrote about on Patmos circa 95-6 AD to an event and location in America. I skipped over those parts. I couldn't comment on something so blatantly ridiculous.
Freddy must have had a huge bromance with the Judge if he thought to include him in the prophecy of the apocalypse.

JWs hardly rate anywhere on the public consciousness. Many don't even know that Prince and the Williams sisters are active members, or that Michael Jackson grew up as one. JWs are generally known as this strange sect that knocks on people's doors. I have found that the few times anyone has known anything in detail about JWs were when they had a friend who was one or who had been disfellowshipped. If a poll of the public were conducted, JWs would probably rate up there, but not as the worst. We know it to be the 'worst' because we all have had our experiences in with and know how destructive it is. With that in mind, you never hear of people actually being killed for leaving the JW religion as we do often with Muslims. That would be where I would start and then move my way down.

I've read a lot of ex-JW books. The problem with most is that they either draw upon existing material and reference it, or tread over similar tales already told. There was one that I read which constantly referenced Crisis of Conscience. Halfway through I put it down and just started on COC for the second time. I haven't bought an ex-JW book since. That is not to say that it can't be done in a way that draws the reader in. For those attempting such a venture, I would offer the advice of not trying to re-write COC, ISOCF, or Apocalypse Delayed with regard to all the doctrinal matter. Ex-JWs already have these resources both in printed matter and in forums such as this one. We all have stories; what makes yours special enough to write a book about? Make it an amusing, almost comical tragedy and leave out the standard "I started to have doubts when..." narrative. This is isn't something that you can realistically expect to get rich or famous from, so keep your day job whatever it might be, or be satisfied in your retirement. I too found it a bit odd to be advertising that he was a professional pilot for nearly 50 years. That information should only be as a footnote, not as a selling point. He probably could have just based it on his experience in the organisation and went from there. Though it desn't necessarily draw me in enough to want to buy it, I would certainly want to read snippets of it to decide whether or not it would be a good read.

Interesting! Though the second article indicates that he was a member of the Greek Orthodox faith, so evidently Sirhan Sirhan was never a JW, and Bishara (if he ever was one) must have converted later in life. It also noted that Bishara Sirhan was chain smoking cigarettes during the interview.

Will Rudd learn from the lesson of Brown?
by slimboyfat inisn't australian politics fascinating?
having toppled the woman who first toppled him, prime minister rudd now faces the choice of calling an election sooner or later.
it was a similar choice that faced gordon brown in the uk when he replaced tony blair in 2007. gordon brown was remarkably popular at the time, a brief popularity that came out of nowhere and that equally disappeared never to return.

So why did Gillard go? Labour wanted her gone because they were toast at the polls, or was it more or a power play by Rudd? Both? I'm just thinking if Gillard wasn't sustainable, Rudd was/is an ass, wasn't there anyone else in the party who could effectively re-brand them?
It was refreshing to have a female athiest with a live-in partner running such a large democracy.
